Occupy Hartford 10062011 @OccupyHartford
As a chronically ill single mom, I am crunched for time and health. If you are following my blog for Occupy Hartford, CT, USA information, you will find that I get right to the point, and there is no editing involved (not enough energy, time or good health right now...but maybe in the future). So here we go....
Sir and I arrived a little late to yesterday the Occupy Hartford meeting. There was a little confusion as to where the meeting would be held (Bushnell Park or Turning Point, Broa Street and Farmington Avenue). Once I realized it was Turning Point (cause there was no one at the Bushnell and I used my Android to check Twitter for the location), we walked from the Capitol's parking lot to Turning Point. Upon arrival, this is what we saw...
I jumped right into the mix and listened for information. Here are some main points to consider:
1. The first march will be held today, Friday, October 7, 2011 (10072011) at 5 PM.
2. The Bushnell Park will be the starting point for the march.
3. The route for the march was up for proposal.
4. It was proposed that the march be inclusive, allowing for consideration and support of individual situations (people's work time, etc.).
5. The issue of Connecticut not being a 24/7 kind of a place like New York provoked lots of discussion about how to deal with the limitations of the City of Hartford's most active and least active hours.
6. There was confusion (which was resolved) over who the Turning Point land belongs to. Turning Point is not the official name of the site that you see above, and there is some philanthropic history behind it.
7. The Turning Point land belongs to the City of Hartford.
8. It was also made clear that The City of Hartford belongs to The City of Hartford and NOT the POLICE.
9. The people were made aware that Ron Pitts (sp? and occupation?) supports the effort.
10. Please note that The Hartford Courant is right across the street.
11. Please note that no Hartford Courant staff reporters (to my knowledge) were in attendance.
Here are so photos...
And a few more...
I will keep you posted.

Occupy Hartford Rundown from 10052011's Evening Meeting
By request, I will do a quick rundown on yesterday's Occupy Hartford:
1. The crowd grew in size from my 5 PM arrival until my 8 PM departure.
2. There were adults, children AND babies present.
3. Cops were also present.
4. Many held protest signs.
5. Some stood on the Bushnell Park sidewalk and held up their signs for passerbys to see. One of these was a young boy who could have been between the ages six and ten. Instead of joining the other children (like Sir, my son who is six and was present) at play, upon his arrival, he took his sign and went right to the sidewalk to hold it up for passing vehicles to see. The unidentified man who was with him, was further down the street doing the same.
6. A unanimous proposal was passed about not smoking with so many children being present with the group.
7. They spoke about the morning's meeting.
8. The various "Breadown Groups" (or committees) were recognized as such: Expression, Finance, Food, Legal, Logistics, Media, Medical, Outreach, Research and Shelter. I was having a hard time hearing when I think they mentioned (and voted?) on having a Strategy group.
9. The lawyer stated: "I am not here to tell you what to do. I am here to make sure your rights to the Constitution are protected."
10. I overheard a statement that "One thing we don't want to see here is a failure to communicate." Eluding to the fact that this failure could prompt conflict with the police.
11. It was agreed that occupation would begin at most a week from Wednesday (10052011) and at least by Saturday (10082011). But upon my departure three hours in, they were still unsure.
12. From what I could see, aside from myself and another unidentified photographer, there was no "blatant" media representation. I did upload live video footage to www.keek.com, but am in talks with Keek now as to why my videos did not post.

Occupy Hartford's Victory Against the Po-Po (Police) by @OccupyHartford
"The following is a report back from Josh. Official minutes from the 5:00pm G.A. should be following soon. (dave r)
The Assembly ended with a difficult consensus that the occupation would begin this Friday.
There was also consensus that committee meetings would take place at the agreed occupation space at Turning Point Park tomorrow at 8:30 am and 5 pm.
We also came to consensus that, because there were several people who wanted to begin the occupation tonight rather than waiting until Friday, we would march in solidarity with them to the site. We did so and were accompanied by the Hartford police.
After most of the group who did not intend to stay the night dispersed, the rest of us (maybe 20 people or so) were informed by the police at the location that we would be arrested if we were in the space after 10 p.m. Peter Goselin from the National Lawyers Guild was there representing us and asked the police if there was any place on city property that we would be allowed to sleep out. The answer was no. The police actually suggested that we go to the capital building, but this was just a matter of passing his problem off onto the state police that are in charge of the capital grounds.
We immediately contacted Councilman Luis Cotto, who phoned the mayor in hopes of resolving the situation. Before Councilman Cotto arrived, the Swat police showed up with a High power sound machine to drive us out of the park. Things were becoming tense.
While waiting for word from the Mayor and the city we held an emergency meeting and consensed around the fact that rather than challenge the police to arrest us as 6, we would leave and wait for the larger occupation.
The city manager (who arrived after being contacted by Councilman Cotto) determined that Turning Point Park is NOT ACTUALLY CITY PROPERTY and belongs to the state. The Hartford Police left immediately, as they no longer had jurisdiction over the land. At this point the Governor’s office was informed by the city of what was taking place. No State Police arrived and there was no discernible reaction from the State.
With this new information, those of us still present called another meeting in order to decide how to proceed. While the State Police did not arrive or react, we decided it was conceivable that any individual state officer driving around might notice the tents and take it upon himself to do something about it. Rather than risk this possible confrontation with only a few of us there, we decided to leave the space and wait until the full occupation begins on Friday as there is obviously much greater strength in numbers.
I personally took tonight as an enormous victory. The Hartford Police cannot bother us in the place that we have designated as our occupation space. Seeing them leave after having threatened to arrest us was fantastic. The reaction of the State remains to be seen, but from what I understand Luis has opened a channel of communication with the Governors office regarding this. As far as Hartford is concerned, we have already occupied Turning Point Park!

Occupy Hartford: 10052011
Today I was lucky to be present for Occupation Hartford's meeting at Bushnell Park in downtown Hartford, CT, USA. Being that my health is what it is (lacking in good health), I never would have imagined that I would witness, first-hand, this historical moment in the making. If you are a MissNikkiAnn's House reader, you know that I have been following Anonymous (Anon) for a while now, long before they (and their idea) became mainstream.I remember watching their first video, knowing that what I was witnessing was novel. I wanted to be a part of that novelty in anyway possible, so I blogged and tweeted Anonymous's stuff, and even participated in their mass media boycott (which should still be on my blog's main page). So when I got word from WESU's 88.1 FM that Occupy Hartford would, indeed, being happening, I just knew that I would have to be there in person, with my Android, getting some footage.

No, I was not and am not feeling well at all (I am actually in the middle of a Dysautonomia flare), and this was the perfect reason to get out there with my walker and Sir. Being a chronic illness patient means having to deal with a system that wishes you didn't exist, so I went (shouldering all the pain and symptoms), to be sure that a movement such as this one got the spotlight that it needs to flourish.
Occupy Hartford represents all of us (middle and lower class alike, sick and chronically ill, children and adults) who have been left behind by a system that wasted our hard-earned resources. This is what fed-up America looks like...
I will keep you posted.

Hospital Day 09292011
Funny that I have to attach an actual date to my hospital days, which means that I am here enough (every Thursday for infusions) to where I need to be specific about the date.
Yeah...I put a head covering on, my nurse just passed and asked it something had changed. Anyway, in this picture I am on the phone with my mom. But oftentimes, I have to handle business from my hospital room. As a matter of fact, I am about to call my primary care, so that he can edit some of my prescriptions that I receive during my infusion sessions. The newer prescriptions say to take by mouth, but since I am already hooked up to the IV for my infusion, my nurse might as well administer the medications through the IV (Which we usually do, but some how it all got mixed up in the new script.).
And I am not gonna complain about already being ready to go home for the day (got here at 6:45 AM and won't leave until around 4 PM), just gonna do my time and not dwell on how wonderful it is when I am home in my own bed. Wait...said I wasn't gonna complain. My bad. Shyt happens.
And in the picture above that is me mouthing "thank you" to everyone who has sent me emails (you can, too: missnikkiannhelp@gmail.com). So many people have reached out to share their stories with me, and I am grateful to have such great readers.
When I started this blog in 2005, I could not have imagined that I would still be posting to it in 2011. And I never would have imagined that I would have a lasting viewership. And I surely could not have fathomed being chronically ill. But here I am. In the moment. Being amazed and blessed by life's journey.

Be patient.
Be in the moment.
And thank you for being on this ride with me."

Welcome to Shyt? Monday
Well...here we are, faced with yet another Monday (unless you're in Antarctica, where it is already Tuesday). What will we do with our time? How will we treat one another? If you are like the average human, you will probably go about your day doing things as you always have (rest assured, this is normal, do not freak out--I've already been down that road this morning and have suffered it for you). But...if you are awakening to the fact that you have unlimited possibilities (maybe not resources), then today could be the day that changes everything, that sets you on a fresh path in a different direction.
No matter what, though, you will live (unless you die). And that is the most certain of all things. So if you find yourself stuck in the mud, call for help. And if you call for help and help does not cometh...well...you're shyt out of luck.
Fact: Luck is known to be ever changing, so hang in there until you breakthrough that shyt.
"Be good. Be patient. Be away from shyt as much as humanly possible. Be in the moment if you are covered and drowning in shyt."

Dear Readers
Please feel free to email me at anytime (many readers do!). I say this because you may have noticed that I have removed comments from the blog. I did not like how impersonal commenting felt to me. I also like my readers to feel as if this is a one-on-one experience they are having with me and NOT the entire web.
Email (instead of in-the-moment heated comments) provides you with the benefit of knowing that I am not here to argue or judge your feelings. You can voice yourself right to me and will probably be surprised that my "Libra" ways lend me to being fair; I am hardwired to agree with each individual, for no one person is TOTALLY wrong. Within every topic there are a million and one ideas, just because yours differs from mine does not mean that we cannot be of some support and help to one another--it happens everyday in people's households. Go figure!?
Email me if you need me or you feel that I--yes, I--need you.

Mass Media Fast
My mass media fast went really...fast. It came and went and has left me thinking about all that has transpired in my life (not throughout the world) within in that 2 weeks (and a couple days). I would have never imagined that things would have gone the way they have. I am usually so consumed by the word that my own life gets less attention than it should. It is a reminder that we speak about a world we desire without first being the change that we want to see. If you are the change, you get a chance to see that desired change each day. If you are about "talking" about change, you get a chance to see yourself and others talking about change each day.
It's the classic: What you put your attention on, you get more of.
And with this fast all I've gotten is more conscious awareness of my life, in the moment, as it is happening. Having received this awareness is the thing that is naturally prodding me in a direction of innate change. I say it is innate because we're humans, we were born to be ever-changing every nanosecond (probably more) of our existence. I do not claim to be a "studied" scientist, but I am conscious enough to see my eyelashes falling out and my nails growing every day. That IS the change; I don't need a textbook to understand it.
I hope all is well with my readers. And if it is not, as it has not been with me, then let us both remember to...
"Be good.
Be patient.
Be in the moment.
Be of understanding that it will change."

Operation Mass Media Boycott, Day 1: Cannot Trust Every Doctor
I thought this video very fitting being that it's about reclaiming one's life; as we reclaim our choices/time/resource. It all goes hand-in-hand, taking back your mental freedom, which affects your physical reality. We are natural consumers who have been manipualted by a media of cannibals. I am not here to preach against garbage consumption--you have free will. I just want you to be able, if you "choose," to see garbage when it's being handed to you on a faux, platinum-plated dinner plate. Just take a closer look at it, marinate on matters and reheat the garbage in the morning (that's what we have radiation for) eating in full pleasure and consciousness.

Jaded
There is a thick sadness that fills me today. I tried shaking it. I tried to nap through it. But it's still there. When I try accepting it, I feel a bit better--the cloud that covers me feels more temporary that way. I am easily agitated...irritated...I try to keep to myself. Try. But my life is about always being around people. Never having a moment to myself; especially when I'm flaring and can't even drive; which means that I don't even get that few minutes alone time in my car while on the way to being poked and prodded by whatever doctor or nurse. It's been a long time since I've used the following word on my blog...
jaded.
I bring attention to it because there are others out there, right this moment, who are feeling the same way. And I'd like to say that it does pass. I never know how long it will stay for, but I know that it always passes. As I age, I am also learning that even within my jadedness, there are still glimpses of what is other than jaded. Meaning, it is rare that a person lives in a state of psychotic jadedness. Even though I feel jaded, I still experience other emotions at the same time--happiness, even. Trust me, you'd know if you ran into someone with a jaded psychosis going on...it'd feel as if you'd actually met the devil. They'd have that I empty, I-don't-gives-a-fuhck look in their eyes. If that approaches you, run! Those are the folks who are liable to eat your butt-hole for dinner as some type of delicacy (seriously).
So I'm just your run-of-the-mill jaded (sans psychosis). It'll pass. And when it does, I'll be happy about it.
"Be good.
Be patient.
Be in the jaded moment--it'll pass."

MissNikkiAnn's Reaction To: "London Riots. (The BBC will never replay this. Send it out)"
Wow! She just randomly called him out as a rioter! Demonstrating is NOT equivalent to rioting. And being at a "demonstration" that TURNS into a riot is not the same as actively seeking and going out to riot.
Wow...I thought our own (America's own) CNN was rubbish, but BBC just put a bad taste in my mouth. And the bad taste in my mouth has nothing to do with the London Riots, it has to do with garbage journalism and reporting; and this is coming from a woman (ME) who's has worked in the media and pursued a graduate degree in communications and journalism (one semester short of a degree that I stopped pursuing in 2001). I say that for those naysayers out there who might ASSUME that I have no authority on the matter.
The reporter reminds me of Oprah, always asking questions and never being patient enough to hear the full answer. That's not what being a journalist (news reporter, interviewer) is about. Let the interviewee tell the story. Or if you're the storyteller, pain the picture and try really hard not to color with your emotions. Journalists in WWI had to deal with a lot of emotional and dangerous pressure, but even they were capable of refraining from forcing their biased opinions on the story and story-makers. Can you image bombs dropping and trying to maintain your composure and wits? This journalist is sitting in a cushion-y office, popping off at the mouth. All she had to do was shut up and listen, he was doing all of the storytelling himself. People and their egoic need for control and their egoic need for the spotlight have ruined the field of journalism. Media my azz!
As a journalist, be a slave to the story. Follow THE STORY. The story will lead you to greatness. And a pure journalist is in it for the story, not for fame or fortune. They want to disseminate TRUTH to the masses.
"Be good.
Be patient.
Be in the moment.
Be open to allowing the story to be told."

- Toys "R" Us is gearing up to hit consumers with a massive, pricey fall and winter holiday season. Be forewarned.
