The Misadventure of MNA: I Hate Hospitals

I spend way too much time at hospitals and doctor appointments.  Tuesday through Friday are designated hospital and doctor days.  Thursdays I am in the hospital all day.  Tuesdays are ALWAYS double-booked with doctor appointments; and so are half of my Wednesdays.  So imagine my horror yesterday when I was in the hospital for my weekly infusion, only to wake from a wee nap to find out that I was being carted over to the emergency room.

From what I understand, my nurse got nervous after having given me a big gallon enema that NEVER came out.  I am used to enemas entering into the land of no return; I'd told my doctors and nurses about how, when I do them at home, they NEVER come out, and that if the do, it'll be 24-hours later.  I guessed no one believed me...so they panicked when witnessing it happen.

In the emergency room, I was given another bottle of magnesium citrate (cause I'd already had my two helpings of Miralax that morning, and my other helping of an entire bottle of magnesium citrate the day before. I've been alternating the two laxatives for two weeks without relief.) and another gallon enema.  Guess what?  No shit.  And by this point I'm getting sicker and sicker because I was in need of the infusion that had ended abruptly.

Two doctors wanted me admitted.  Another doctor was a straight ass.  Guess who got to assume power over the situation?  The ass.

I will say no more.

Hospital Day 09292011

Funny that I have to attach an actual date to my hospital days, which means that I am here enough (every Thursday for infusions) to where I need to be specific about the date.

Yeah...I put a head covering on, my nurse just passed and asked it something had changed.  Anyway, in this picture I am on the phone with my mom.  But oftentimes, I have to handle business from my hospital room.  As a matter of fact, I am about to call my primary care, so that he can edit some of my prescriptions that I receive during my infusion sessions.  The newer prescriptions say to take by mouth, but since I am already hooked up to the IV for my infusion, my nurse might as well administer the medications through the IV (Which we usually do, but some how it all got mixed up in the new script.).

And I am not gonna complain about already being ready to go home for the day (got here at 6:45 AM and won't leave until around 4 PM), just gonna do my time and not dwell on how wonderful it is when I am home in my own bed.  Wait...said I wasn't gonna complain.  My bad.  Shyt happens.

And in the picture above that is me mouthing "thank you" to everyone who has sent me emails (you can, too:  missnikkiannhelp@gmail.com).  So many people have reached out to share their stories with me, and I am grateful to have such great readers.

When I started this blog in 2005, I could not have imagined that I would still be posting to it in 2011.  And I never would have imagined that I would have a lasting viewership.  And I surely could not have fathomed being chronically ill.  But here I am.  In the moment.  Being amazed and blessed by life's journey.

Be patient.
Be in the moment.
And thank you for being on this ride with me."

My Words: Hospital Day

The day is coming to an end. It was a long and miserable one for me. I got really sick yesterday; began fainting while driving from one appointment to the next, so I skipped the second appointment and went home. I was so sick that I had to crawl from the back door from which I'd entered to my bedroom.

Then the sickness continued into today. My poor infusion nurses had to call my doctor to request intravenous Zofran and some Benadryl. Then I took a Tramadol to attemp to ease the pain. I called mom, on the verge of tears and a nervous breakdown, told her that she might have to come back to the hospital to see about me. What she could have done for me? Not a dayum thang.

The only good part about my day was tha AMC is having #MobWeek, so I got to watch the likes of Al Pacino and Robert Deniro, two of my favorite guys.

Now I'm finally home and in the bed. But dontcha know, life doesn't take a vacation, only the final permanent one, and that's more like retirement. Anywho, I got two denials today, which fit perfectly with the denial my mind is in when it thinks it can outsmart Dysautonomia.

Sir and I are calling it a night. Maybe you should, too.
