Spotlight On: DJ Akademiks -"Tyga's album only went...COPPER!"

I am a subscriber to D.J. Akademik's YouTube channel.  Everyday I look forward to his commentary.  But today...today he made a more than quotable quote.  And unfortunately it was aimed at Tyga and the many untruths that some artists hide behind in order to defend their lack of cloud sales (albums without a physical product).  His straight forward mathematics on these cloud sales led him to a real cloud fact:

"Tyga's album only went COPPER."

Damn.

Spotlight On: Genius.com

I've been testing out the waters of Genius.com.  I find its research and editing niche very involving, evolving and long term; which I believe should be the way of research writing.  An added plus for me and my light sensitivity is the black background, giving me the chance to enjoy using the site without my body going nuts. The following is a piece I am contributing to.

Sex After Kids: a possible movie in the making...

I like the idea behind this film.  And if I had money (I don't), I'd use it to back this film.  But maybe you have money (I don't).  And if you do have money (I don't), I think it would be a worthwhile investment for you, since you have money (I don't).  Cool.

Spotlight: http://www.youtube.com/user/SuperFaannyy

I received a YouTube friend request from this young lady today.  I watched about five of her videos, admiring here talent, and realized that I just had to share her YouTube page with the world--the same way she seems to be working hard to do the same.  As they say...game recognize game.

Be patient.

@NadiaBodkin Is Looking for Sponsors As She Vies for Miss NJ USA

My friend Nadia is running for Miss New Jersey USA. She has Ehler's Danlos Syndrome and wants to use the pageant as a platform for spreading awareness of this illness that also falls within the Dysautonomia family. This means that in return for helping her, you'd be helping me and other autonomic nervous system failure patients.

Spotlight On: MamaSick's Blog (@Mamasick on Twitter)

For my fellow chronic illness peeps, I love MamaSick's down-to-earth blogging. She's a chronic illness sufferer, wife and mother. And despite the odds, she finds the time to share her life through her writing.

At this time she is accepting guest bloggers, so go over to her site and have a look-around. I have been inspired much by her blogging and interacting with her on Twitter.

Mandy Moore Covers Rihanna's "Umbrella" Live

Sometimes folks remake a song and you just want to yell leave it the hell alone! Then there are other times, like this, when it's done so beautifully that it's brought to the next level and you want to cry.

Now rewind to Rihanna's Live Performance of "Umbrella"

Friday Favecast

This episode was informative and FUNNY as heck. But you'll need a little time to listen to the entire show.

FYI: One discussion was on "booties" and another on "cut buddies!" Now that's "whoa!" (that was for my hip-hop heads).

Keith Sweat and The Sweat Hotel

Heard Keith Sweat on the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Woo-hoo! That's my boy. His chocolate voice and blatant lisp melt my heart. I was swoonin'! So I had to go to the website of his new radio show The Sweat Hotel. I just knew there was no way that the website could be as sexy as he is, but it is. Ladies...it is! Wow! The opening song is one of my favorites: Right and Wrong Way.

"There's a right and a wrong way to love somebody. Ya' love them right."

Miss Nikki Ann shouted back at the music, "Hell, love me right Keith!"

He has two other songs on there as well, you just look to the top right-hand corner and scroll through them.

And there's a section on the site called Apologies--I guess it's a recorded segment of his show where people call in to apologize to folks--ya' have to his voice on the recordings.

I don't know, it just made my day. Cleared my head so that I could do some work. It was nostalgia, made me think of the Friday evenings Ma and I spent with records spread across the floor. My favorite was always The Betty Wright Live album. Boy, we'd groove for hours, and she'd be cooking (good down south food--not southern food, but down south food!) and cleaning the house as friends and family stopped by to say hi. Man... My mom's not just my mom, she's my friend. I learned to groove from this woman, to sing, dance, and move with a joy that relinquishes the pressures that can accompany life. Friday nights with Ma....

Groove on y'all. Whatever your musical taste is...groove on...

To Ava: As I read your posts, I often imagine what it must feel like to be at one of your musical sessions. You all seem to have a really good time.

Karrine Steffans

So today I came across this Karrine Steffans link on Twitter. I was a little curious--the Wendy-Williams-nosey-diva in me--and followed the link. On the site she posts these really intimate video diaries (even a clip of her on Oprah--for crying out loud!).

And what can I say... Instantly, I was hooked. I watched personal video after personal video until I had to force myself to leave her page. What drew me in was her openness. There was something in eyes, and something so refreshing about her willingness to share pieces of her life--and if you hadn't noticed, I love that type of stuff and that's exactly why I do what I do (however you describe what I do).

Anywho, here's the link: http://karrine.com/home2007.html. Enjoy.

FYI: For those who don't know anything about the hip-hop world, you may want to do a little research on Karrine Steffans. The information you'll find will be interesting.

FYI part two: For those who don't know anything about the hip-hop world, you may want to do a little research on Wendy Williams (a black radio personality). The information you'll find will have you listening to her show on the radio or the internet (I think it airs on the internet) everyday.

For PEANUT: Check out the video that has the word Bobby in the title. In this clip, she has footage of Bobby Brown sleeping on her couch.

FYI again: For those who don't know anything about R&B and Bobby Brown...that's just too damn bad. Who in the hell doesn't know who Bobby Whitney Houston Brown is? And if you really have no idea, then I apologize for poking fun at you.

I'm out!

Spotlight: James Redfield

I've read a third book of his: The Secret of Shambhala. It only took me a few days and I could hardly put it down. I love his writing and his open ideas. His words echo through my mind as I try to stay conscious of my higher self and the higher self of those around me. Here's to the Dakini!

Spotlight: Anika Noni Rose

Today I received many email about a person a attended high school with. This young lady is in the new Dreamgirls production. She is co-starring along with other female singers Beyonce and Idol winner, Jennifer Hudson. This woman is Anika Noni Rose (we knew her as Anika Rose). Here's a little anecdote...

There year was 1989. Me, my girl Maia (who's now in the Broadway production of The Color Purple) and some more of our friends had plans on performing an EnVogue song for our high school talent show. **Hey, LuCiana, were you supposed to perform with us?** We were freshman at the time and Miss Anika, who was a senior, had decided to do the same song. What we couldn't understand was why she'd want to perform this song solo when it was made for a group performance. In the end, her seniority won out. I can still remember how disgusted I was over it. And if I'm not mistaken, I think, in the end, she decided on doing some other song; but it was too late for us to switch back.

Hey...Miss Anika was always driven. I guess that's the reason why she is now a Tony Award winner from some Broadway play she was in. I can't hate on the woman for having drive, even if that drive caused her to run over me and my pals.

Miss Anika, my hat's off to you. Live your dream, girl. **Nikki Ann ponders a moment** Anika probably wouldn't know me if she passed me on the street. LOL! Goes to show you how silly old grudges can be. I mean, that stuff happened 17 years ago! LOL!

I'm out!
