"Is MY cancer different?" (@ismycancerdiff)

Being a woman whose mother (and my mother's sister) is a breast cancer survivor, and being that cancer has taken two of my father's sisters and recently a beloved uncle (who was also Sir's godfather), I know just how important this question is.  For those struggling with cancer personally or by way of caring about someone who has it, this site is a great resource for answering the question, which goes without saying, but I will answer it, emphatically...

Baby Pics on the Net: Public or Private? : Dory Devlin : Yahoo! Tech

Just a little something for you to ponder. Sometimes I do post pictures of Sir, but I try to remember NOT to include his real name with any pictures or in any of my blog posts (especially since he has unique first, last, and middle names that can be easily found with a search engine). I've also been trying to practice this when it comes to mentioning friends and family members (referring to my brother as "Peanut," my sister-in-law as Tee Tee, calling my neighbors "Neighbor" or "Man Up The Street," and so forth). But sometimes I may slip and put in the real name by mistake. Hey, I think we all try our best, but unfortunately, as a Lieutenant told me at a recent Police Department meeting: "When it's your day to be the victim, it's just your day. There's only so much you can do about it." It's sad, but it's a truth that prevails.

A Healthful Reminder

Refusing to forgive is just as bad as eating one too many pieces of cake. Forgiveness is apart of a healthy lifestyle. Got Forgiveness?

A Healthful Reminder

It only takes five minutes out of your day to schedule a doctor appointment.
FIVE.
You probably spend more than that gossiping with coworkers.

Please take care of yourselves.

Don't put it off another day...

And put that extra Christmas cookie down! After January 1st, you'll be glad you did!

A Healthful Reminder

Fall is here and winter is coming. During the summer, it is easy to remember to drink water when your body is craving and needing it the most. But during these colder seasons, when we're not sweating as much, or, sometimes, not exerting as much energy, we have a tendency to forget to drink water. So please watch your water intake. You may not need to drink as much as you did in the summer months, but you still need a good amount to run on.

I love to drink my water hot, warm or at room temperature all year long. But winter is a great time to drink it that way, when it's so cold that drinking colder water can be a turn off.

And let's not forget our fresh, uncooked fruits and veggies, another thing that we tend to not consume lots of during colder months.

Here's to our health!

A Healthful Reminder

FORGIVENESS is a big part of mental/physical/emotional/spiritual well-being. Today, try to forgive one small thing. If someone cuts you off in traffic don't let your road rage take over, release it and decide to utilize your other option. Forgive that driver for being blind; busy; a tired mom with 3 yelling kids in the car; a truck driver trying to make ends meet; a high school student who thinks he/she is in a NASCAR race; a 90-year-old GREAT-grandmother who's still driving around town because her kids haven't got the heart to seize her license...

Let it go... Just for today. Just this once. And see how much better you'll feel mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

And most of all: FORGIVE yourself...

FORGIVENESS
A step to better health and wellness

A Healthful Reminder

We've got to do it. People, we've got to do it. Ya gotta floss. I know-I know it's one of those tedious tasks that you'd like to skip in order to get to bed faster or move on with your day. In an ideal situation you'd floss 2-3 times a day. But hey, Mr. Tooth up there would be happy if ya did it at least once a day. For those of you in romantic relationships, it's not an option. You can't hand out wet kisses if you haven't removed the plaque and crap from in between your teeth.

Anyway, flossing and diabetes are bi-directionally related. Meaning: flossing can lead to diabetes and diabetes can lead to dental problems. So take time to floss the same way you take time to brush (At least I hope all of you are brushing. I hope...).

Then run out a plant a wet kiss on someone; they'll appreciate the extra time you put into your oral hygiene.

Here's a bit of information from
mayoclinic.com:

Dental care and diabetes: Guide to a healthy mouth

You must take special care of your mouth when you have diabetes, especially your teeth and gums. Follow this advice to avoid serious complications.

When you have diabetes, elevated blood sugar levels can damage many parts of your body, including your mouth and teeth. Diabetes increases your risk of gum disease, cavities and tooth loss, dry mouth, and a variety of oral infections.

Conversely, poor oral health can make your diabetes more difficult to control. Infections may cause your blood sugar to rise and require more insulin to keep it under control.

In addition, diabetes can diminish your ability to taste sweets. Although this change may not be noticeable, it can influence your food choices in favor of additional sweeter tasting foods, thereby affecting your dental health, as well as your ability to control your diabetes.

Awareness of potential oral complications from diabetes will improve your chances of maintaining a healthy mouth and sound teeth.

A Healthful Reminder

Go ahead! Pour yourself a glass.

I drink mine warm or at room temperature.

But if you prefer, ice cold water isn't a bad option either.

So pour. Drink up.

For those non-water drinkers, just adding one 8 oz. glass to your day can make a difference. All it takes is baby steps.

So pour... And enjoy!

A Healthful Reminder

Instead of having three cups of coffee today, have two and switch-out the third cup with water.

Instead of chatting it up with your coworkers by the water cooler, ask Jennie, Bill or Bob to take a short walk on the stairs with you. And if they say no, do it by yourself.

Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs.

Park a tad bit further from the office door than usual.

And for those who need it, have something sweet today, it'll keep you from binging later on.

A Healthful Reminder

Have you had a fresh piece of fruit today? If not, why not take a minute--and a bite--out of something colorful and refreshing. Our bodies tingle with delight when we eat live foods. So before chowing down on a processed snack, reach for something that will add to your health and your life.
